MAJ Frederick A. Hockett, Jr.
Major Fred Hockett serves as the Recruiting Operations Officer with the University of Illinois at Chicago.His military career started in 1987 as an enlisted Infantryman in the Army Reserves. After graduating from High School, he transitioned to the Regular Army at Fort Carson Colorado. Then Private First Class Hockett, applied for and was accepted to the United States Military Academy Prep School. After graduating from the Prep School, he entered the Military Academy at West Point, earning a commission as an Infantry Second Lieutenant and an assignment to Fort Lewis, Washington. While at Fort Lewis, he served as an infantry platoon, company executive officer, and battalion personnel officer.
After departing Fort Lewis, he traveled to the Republic of Korea. Again with an infantry unit, he duty positions included battalion supply officer, Infantry Rifle Company Commander, and Headquarters Company Commander. His responsibilities included training, coaching, and mentoring soldiers and leaders who executed combat missions, as well as those who planned, coordinated, and executed the battalion's logistics operations. Upon returning to the United States, MAJ Hockett assumed command of a US Army Recruiting Company in Pontiac, Michigan.
MAJ Hockett left active service in September 2005. He was later recalled for service in Iraq with the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq where he served as the military mayor of a 2,000 person forward operating base. In July 2009, Major Hockett returned for a second tour in Iraq as a logistics planner with the 90th Sustainment Brigade.
He was recently selected for the Active Guard and Reserve program and service as the Recruiting Operations Officer with the University of Illinois – Chicago Army ROTC program.
His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He has earned his Basic Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, and Basic Recruiting Badge. His military education includes the Infantry Officer basic and advance courses, the Combined Arms Staff School, and the Recruiting Commander's Course. He is currently enrolled in the Command and General Staff College intermediate level education course.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the US Military Academy at West Point.
He is unmarried and lives in Chicago, Illinois.
